Since 2007, Earth Givers has been pioneering a model that uses carbon offsets as a way to support local community development. This model has helped thousands of low-income families reduce their utility bills, and has yielded over 18,000(and counting) newly planted indigenous trees on conservation lands in Gainesville, FL. Earth Givers is a non-profit that utilizes community involvement to spread a message of conservation through commitment and action. Businesses, Universities, conferences, and individuals are choosing to offset their environmental impact with Earth Givers, because every carbon offset that’s sold is reinvested in to more projects that move us towards a sustainable and resilient community.
Earth Givers Haiti Initiative
Since 2010 Earth Givers has been working with (607) 764-5535 to work with 100 plus women in the mountains of Haiti to support them in replanting their community hillsides. Our two organizations are working together to help the women plant their hillsides with trees for food and other perennials that will provide food, livelihood and fuel. Our Global Giving Project Fundraiser!
Earth Givers’ We Are Neutral initiative would like to thank everyone for their generous support in helping us raise money for our new project in Puerto Rico!  We successfully raised beyond our goal of $5,000 to reach a grand total of $6,785!  Thank you to all who made this project possible.  We are anxious to begin our work to help low-income families in Puerto Rico!
We will be helping 50 families save on their utility bills while reducing their environmental footprint. Â How do we plan on doing this?
Most of these families are on fixed incomes and renting units that are dated and very low in energy efficiency, making the utility bills crazy expensive and often unaffordable. Â Federal housing was primarily built in the 1950’s and 60’s when buildings were not designed for energy efficiency.
Our initiative focuses on providing opportunities to reduce monthly utility bills free of charge to families and housing management. We work with housing management and families to set a day for energy retrofits. We train, educate, and lead 15-20 volunteers (per day) to perform energy retrofits along side our staff. Each home will receive new low-flow showerheads, kitchen and bathroom faucets along with compact florescent light bulbs in place of incandescent bulbs. Every homeowner is interviewed and educated on ways to change behaviors that will lower their utility bills, save energy, and ultimately decrease their environmental footprint. This is especially important for an island where freshwater sources are limited and energy production is based on imported, dirty coal. Â Puerto Rico’s power generation produces some of the highest levels of carbon emissions per kilowatt-hour in the U.S. and its territories.
